ABSTRACT

@#Abstract: Objective To analyze the characteristics of bloodstream infection of Listeria monocytogenes and provide basis for the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the cases of Listeria monomyrhosi bloodstream infection in Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH) from April 2012 to April 2022. The age, sex, onset time, underlying disease, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of the patients were analyzed, as well as the changes of white blood cells (WBC), neutrophils, lymphocytes, and C-reactive protein (CRP) before and after anti-infection treatment. Results Fifty cases of Listeria monocytogenes bloodstream infection confirmed by blood culture were involved. The age of patients ranged from 0 to 82 (43.7±20.0) years old, among whom 20.0% were over 60 years old. The onset time of patients was the highest in spring (44.0%), followed by winter (24.0%), and relatively fewer in summer and autumn (14.0%-18.0%). The median diagnosis time was 3 days (1-60 days). After the etiological diagnosis, 45 patients (90.0%) had underlying diseases or pregnancy status, and 45 patients were adjusted to the target antibacterial treatment mainly with carbapenems (48.9%) and penicillins (44.4%). The level of WBC, neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, and CRP after treatment were significantly lower than those pre-treatments (P<0.05). Among all patients, 36 cases (72.0%) were treated according to the Antimicrobial Treatment Guidelines for Fever Sanford, of which 26 cases (72.2%) were discharged from the hospital, two cases died, one case was transferred to other hospitals, and 7 cases had a poor prognosis. Conclusions Autoimmune diseases, tumor diseases, pregnant patients are susceptible to Listeria monocytogenes infection. Penicillins are the first choice for effective empiric therapy. For the patients allergic to penicillins, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole or meropenem could be used.

ABSTRACT

Abstract@#Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) is one of the main psychotherapeutic methods used to treat anxiety disorders in children and adolescents. Art therapy, based on psychotherapy theory and methods, is rising in popularity abroad. At present, foreign scholars have started to apply cognitive behavioral art therapy (CBAT) for patients with anxiety disorders. Based on the current findings, children and adolescents with developing cognitive functions may also benefit from this therapy. This article summarizes the application status of CBAT in the treatment of anxiety disorder in patients at home and abroad, and innovatively explores its therapeutic potential for anxiety disorders in children and adolescents in China, thus providing a novel perspective that can address the shortcomings of CBT.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To investigate the clinical effect of concentrated growth factor (CGF) applied in guided bone regeneration (GBR) for severe bone deficiency in the anterior maxilla.@*Methods @#Forty patients with bone defects in the anterior maxilla were chosen to be treated with GBR, 20 patients were treated with CGF applied in GBR as the observation group, and the other 20 patients were treated only with GBR as the control group. The evaluation of wound healing was performed after the operation, and bone augmentation was evaluated half a year after the operation.@*Results@#The first-stage healing rate of soft tissue wounds in the observation group was 100% and 75% in the control group, and the primary healing rate in the observation group was better than that in the control group (P=0.017). The changes in bone width of the observation group were (3.70 ± 0.28) mm, and those of the control group were (2.96 ± 0.16) mm. The bone augmentation in the observation group was higher than that in the control group (P=0.000). @*Conclusion@#CGF applied in GBR has a good effect on bone augmentation for severe bone deficiency in the anterior maxilla.

ABSTRACT

@#Temporomandibular joint is the pivot joint system in oral and maxillofacial chewing system, bearing the intricate function such as speaking and chewing movement. During the process of derangement or functional impairment of temporomandibular joint, there are some changes in radiograph or the synovial fluid physical and chemical properties. Besides, the variation of intra-articular pressure also reflects the pathological mechanism and course of temporomandibular joint disorders. This article will review our related researches on intra-articular pressure of temporomandibular joint in the last 30 years, including the fluctuating rule, its significance of intra-articular pressure in TMJ and the effect of that on the joint physiopathology and biomechanics, to provide new ideas for clinical diagnosis and treatment of temporomandibular disorders.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#This study investigated the effects of interleukin-1β (IL-1β) on human synovial fluid-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hSFMSCs) in the temporomandibular joint.@*Methods @#hSFMSCs from synovial fluid samples of temporomandibular disorder (TMD) patients were cultured in vitro. hSFMSCs were divided into three groups with different concentrations of rhIL-1β in complete medium (α-MEM cell culture medium + 10% FBS + 1× GlutaMAX): 0 ng/mL IL-1β group, 1 ng/mL IL-1β group and 10 ng/mL IL-1β group. Changes in the rate of colony formation, growth curve, cell cycle and apoptosis of hSFMSCs under IL-1β stimulation were evaluated. The osteogenic, adipogenic and chondrogenic potential of the cells were also determined using histochemical and real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR methods. @*Results @#No significant differences in growth or proliferation capacity were observed in any IL-1β-stimulated group in comparisons of the colony-formation rate (F = 0.665, P=0.548), growth curve (F=0.001, P=0.999), cell cycle (FG1=0.773, PG1=0.503; FS =0.636, PS =0.562) or apoptosis (F=0.196, P=0.827) of the cells. However, the multidifferentiation capacity of hSFMSCs was affected in the inflammatory environment. Mineralized nodule and lipid clusters decreased significantly, and the gene expression levels of runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2), osteocalcin (OCN), peroxisomal proliferative receptor G2 (PPARG2) and lipoprotein lipase (LPL) were suppressed significantly in IL-1β-mediated induction medium (P < 0.05). In general, cartilage pellets formed in all the IL-1β-mediated chondrogenic differentiation groups. The gene levels of sex-determining region Y-related high-mobility group box-9 (SOX9) and collagen II were decreased (P < 0.05), while that of matrix metalloproteinase 13 (MMP13) was increased significantly in the presence of IL-1β (P < 0.05). @*Conclusion@# IL-1β directly affects the multidifferentiation potential of hSFMSCs but not their cell growth or proliferation ability.
